Overview: This CME/CPE, audio-enhanced online publication focuses on the challenges of vaccinating adults with chronic disease from a primary care perspective, with the goal of educating and empowering primary care clinicians and pharmacists to be more effective vaccinators. The audio clips were obtained from roundtable discussion that included experts in immunization, a cardiologist, an endocrinologist, a pharmacist, and a nurse practitioner and are included to offer frontline perspectives and practical strategies for clinicians who face challenges in vaccinating adults with chronic disease.

This activity is intended for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists.

Series Overview/Statement of Need
The probability of adult exposure to infectious agents has risen due to increased globalization and international travel. In addition, the substantial increase in the prevalence of chronic disease among adults has led to increased morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable infectious disease.

Vaccination responsibilities have largely fallen under the purview of primary care clinicians; however, primary care for adults has mainly centered on prevention and management of chronic diseases rather than ensuring appropriate vaccination coverage. Inadequate vaccine coverage among adult patients, particularly those with chronic disease, is likely to become an even larger challenge as the shortage of primary care physicians becomes more acute. Thus, clinicians in both primary care and specialty care require education and guidance regarding vaccines and the use of available resources and tools to facilitate improved care.

This CME/CPE activity consists of a 1.0-credit online publication. To receive credit, read the introductory CME/CPE material, read the publication, and complete the post-survey, evaluation, attestation, and post-test, answering at least 70% of the post-test questions correctly.
